BURNING PIPE HARMONY - review

I spent a good part of my youth inside cars, driving Detroit's monotonous expressways. The music playing on the car stereo would often be what is now known as Motor City rock. Once, I got out of the car and actually saw an Iggy and the Stooges show. I therefore feel qualified to say a few words about RevolutioNapalm, the debut album by the Tampere-based quintet Burning Pipe Harmony, a band who've taken the Detroit model of rock music and street attitude to their self-consciously jaded hearts. The album opens with the sarcastic Ladies Prefer Zombies. A sneering vocal manages to get out front of the guitar buzz and, somewhere behind that, pummeled drums are heard. The guitar barrage is relentless. The stuff dead ends, blow-outs, and broken dreams are made of. The band keeps it loud, hard, and for the most part fast, down to the bitter end. The band makes a slight shift into a sort of heavy punk mode on tracks such as Who Am I?, Lovely, and Jivehead, which are full of angry energy, vulgarity, and catchy choruses, but less guitar flash. The reservations I have about RevolutioNapalm are that the mix sometimes gets too muddy (I'd like to be shaken by the drumbeats as well as stunned by the power chords) and that lead vocalist Tumppi's performance lacks much variety (can he sometimes sing without the rasp?). I suppose the issue in both of those cases is related to the sheer density and volume (loudness) of this kind of music, which mitigates against subtlety. Still and all, an impressive first effort. | In English. No lyric sheet. [Hiljaiset Levyt] am

This finnish group get me to be remind about Sator when they were at their best in the beginning of the 90īs and in the end of the 80īs. Itīs a little of the same style that BPH succeed to give us just this sunday. Itīs the little of same heavyness which they had at that thime and BPH can really put rock n rol ontheir own card. Itīs possible to hear some fast things as Lasrevinu and some other styles in the other songs(SEVEN) 20/5-01
